Two new school kitchens in Macharote and Matope!

APOIAR launched, during this week, two new school kitchens, in two communities in different provinces, Matope (in Tete) and Macharote (in Sofala).

--

It was within the scope of the "School feeding - Sustainable and resilient construction, inclusive and adapted management of school kitchens in Mozambique" project, financed by the Camões Institute, implemented by APOIAR and in partnership with PRONAE, ForAfrika, the Provincial Directorate of Sofala, the Dondo District Directorate and the LVIDA Foundation, that the new school kitchen in Macharote (Sofala) launched on the 8th of February. This kitchen is based on the construction of APOIAR's KUKULA kitchens but is built with the inputs of these partners, as a "model kitchen" and a reference for the implementation of school kitchens in Mozambique.

In the field of nutrition, it's the partnership with JOINCO that finances the daily meals served by Macharote's kitchen. On the first day APOIAR distributed lunches to 278 children at the Macharote school (two days later we saw a very significant increase, with 200 more children at school, and having lunch, than on the first day - a total of 478 children).

Further north, in the province of Tete, today, February 12th, we launched a new school kitchen in the community of Matope. With the partnership of MLT, this is the 10th kitchen implemented and managed daily by the APOIAR team in Tete province. It was in a festive atmosphere that 355 children and their families gathered to open this school kitchen that meets the most basic and daily needs of these children, also contributing to their school attendance.

The launch of the Lipusia kitchen

June 23, 2023 will go down forever in the history of the Lipusia community, with the opening of the school kitchen!

--

It was in a festive atmosphere where more than 650 children, and their families, came together to inaugurate the KUKULA kitchen in Lipusia, financed by JOINCO. From the teachers and director of the school and our children's families and government officials, everyone was deeply happy and grateful that this project had been implemented in their community.

Meals that will nourish children and make them healthier will also be a key factor in increasing school attendance, which will reflect in the decrease in child labor in this community.

A NEW KUKULA IS BORN!

In the Lipusia community, in Niassa, a new KUKULA school kitchen is being born, in partnership with JOINCO!

--

It is in partnership, and through funding from JOINCO, that APOIAR is building another school kitchen in Niassa, Mozambique.

This kitchen will be the sixth in Niassa province and the fourteenth in operation. 2 meals a day will be distributed to approximately 300 children.

Through this nutrition and education project, with the help of our partners, we continue on a path of contributing to breaking the cycle of absolute poverty in Mozambique.

Crowdfunding

Have you ever imagined a mother who gives birth to a child and does not have access to the most basic products to take care of her baby? Help us ensure that in Nhampuepua, in 2024, every mother will have soap, underwear, diapers or a hat for her baby!

--

MAYI - Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Training Academy

Birth Kits are kits distributed to mothers after giving birth at the Nhampuepua Health Center (Sofala - Mozambique), built by APOIAR in 2021. Most of the accompanied mothers live in extreme poverty and arrive at the health center with nothing. The birth kit allows these mothers to feel safer, at such an important stage, and to be able to take better care of their babies.

Among the products that make up the 240 birth kits needed for 2024 are: packs of sanitary towels, panties for mothers, blankets, changes of baby clothes, bars of soap, cloth diapers, diaper pins, baby soap, cream for the baby...

Event: Together in Mozambique!

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the event “Together in Mozambique: The role of Portuguese NGDOs in Post-Cyclone Reconstruction”, taking place on the 6th of December 2022, from 10am to 12pm, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon.

More than 3 years after the tragic passage of cyclones Idai and Kenneth, through central and northern Mozambique, it is time to take stock and present the results of the intervention of the 5 Portuguese NGDO consortia led by Apoiar, FEC, Health4Moz, Helpo and Oikos .

In close coordination with authorities, partners and local communities, projects in the areas of health, education and food security supported the recovery and reconstruction of the Mozambican regions most affected by these disasters.

This intervention was triggered by the Financing Mechanism to Support the Recovery and Reconstruction of Mozambique, created by the Portuguese Government, through Camões, I.P., with a view to reconciling availability of the public and private sectors to contribute financially to help the victims.

Also because this combination of efforts and wills of the public and private sectors is essential for the NGDO's activities, it is intended that this be an event capable of looking at the present and the future of this collaboration. As such, a round table will be presented on “Companies and NGDOs: Partners for Development”, where the intention is to reflect on the role and articulation between NGDOs and companies in the areas of humanitarian emergencies and development cooperation. Moderation by Paula Borges, RTP Africa journalist.

Construction of the JOHO School

It was last week that we started the construction works of the new School for children between 2 and 5 years old in Joho, Niassa.

--

Through the funding of the Vinci for Citizenship Program, to which APOIAR applied with the Escolinha project, in October 2022 we started the construction of the first pre-school education school in the community of Joho, in Niassa.

APOIAR was already present in this community, through working with mothers - at Academia MAYI - and with a school kitchen at Escola Primária Completa de Joho and we are now working to improve the education and nutrition of children between the ages of 2 and 5 joho.

"100 LIMITES" CONVERSATIONS

On the 22nd of September, in the main hall of the Pousada de Lisboa, the group of Volunteers APOIAR 100 LIMITES participated in a public session to present the results of the mission they carried out, in Mozambique, in August of this year.

--

The presentation of the results of the APPOIAR 100 LIMITS international volunteer mission to family, friends, APOIAR donors and the general public is a fundamental step towards closing the annual cycle of this project.

This was the 5th edition of this volunteering project and, on the 22nd, many stories, challenges and achievements were shared with us. It was a very special afternoon in which the emotions that came out of the volunteers' mouths infected the public that went to Terreiro do Paço, to the Pousada de Lisboa, and filled the Noble Room.

We thank the volunteers for the meritorious work they did with the children of the APOIAR Champions project in Sofala, the training of mentors and all the help in this education project. They launched seeds that are germinating and came back full of everything they lived in Mozambique.

Our children in Mozambique also left their message - watch it:

KUKULA in Tete

2022 was the year of expansion of the KUKULA project to a new province: Tete. In February 2022 we opened the first school kitchen in the Nkhame community. After 7 months we already have 6 kitchens in operation in this province and we have distributed more than 60,000 meals to the children of these school communities.

--

After Niassa and Sofala, in 2022 we expanded our operations to the province of Tete (with KUKULA). APOIAR has already built 16 school kitchens in Mozambique!

The KUKULA project is a school feeding program that includes the free distribution of 2 meals a day to students. These nutritious meals help to increase school attendance and improve school performance.

APOIAR 100 LIMITES, International Volunteering!

APOIAR 100 Limites is an international volunteering project. The 5th edition of this project is taking place during the month of August 2022.

--

There are 17 young Portuguese people who joined APOIAR to carry out a volunteer mission in Mozambique, in August 2022. They will work in the field, in a project for the Development of Young Talent, school support, sports and emotional literacy, with 5th grade children. of vulnerable families.

In this month of August, this group donates their vacations and puts themselves at the service, dedicating themselves to the other, to those who need help the most. Through this volunteer project, they will contribute to increasing access to primary and secondary education, as a result of acquiring more effective learning. They will mitigate the risk of dropping out or failing, particularly for girls and orphans.

Badgías Challenge among the KUKULA Kitchens!

On the 1st of June, all teams from the 9 KUKULA kitchens, from APOIAR, were committed to making the best Bagdias (Cookies) recipes to deliver to our children and thus celebrate "Children's Day".

--

We launched a challenge to the teams of our KUKULA kitchens to make the best cookies (badgías) to offer to school children in each community on June 1st.

All teams committed to making the Cookies and recording, in photography and video, to share among all teams, in Portugal and Mozambique.

This team action was very important and fun for our employees and the result was very tasty for our children!

In the first week of July, the teams of the 3 winning kitchens (one for each province) were surprised with a gift for the commitment shown in this challenge and for the good results!

The joy was general! Cooks, gardeners and helping moms received capulanas, crockery, food kits and shirts that made them very happy!

Long live the KUKULA kitchens!

Long live the APOIAR team!

Long live school food!

Long live our children!

Champions Agreements signed at the Primeiro de Maio School in Sofala, Mozambique

On the 13th of June, 46 children, integrated in the APOIAR Champions project (implemented by the NGO APOIAR and financed by Camões I.P), gathered to sign and formalize their commitment and commitment to the Youth Talent Development Scholarships.

The APOIAR Champions project consists of a study support network, through the mentoring of young university students to children between 10 and 14 years old and the development of sports activity.

Young Talent Development Grants were awarded to these children who, through the link between sport and education, gain motivation in each activity to excel and optimize their school performance. Mentoring, talent development and emotional literacy are the key to this APOIAR Education project in Mozambique.

On the 13th of June, the first 46 children covered by the project were present at the school, with their mentors and Education Officers, so that together - school, students, APOIAR and family - they could formalize the commitment to participation, commitment and monitoring of all parts.

Many of those present made a point of leaving their testimony on this feast day:

- The School Director pointed out that the improvements in the reading of these students since the beginning of the APOIAR Champions project are notable;

- The community leader spoke of a change in the general behavior of these children since, contrary to what happened before, he sees them greeting people they pass on the street;

- Several parents also wanted to thank the project, saying that they noticed big differences in the children's motivation to go to school and in their behavior.

Andreia Oliveira, manager of the APOIAR Champions Project, took the floor and asked if they wanted to sign the commitment and the answers were in unison: YES!

For example, if you are using tabs to show different services INOVEMED - pharmaceutical products, delivered a donation of 114,000 tablets to APOIAR for the treatment of Malaria in Mozambique, TAP, responsible for transporting medicines from Portugal to Mozambique, also entered this partnership.

--

It was with great joy, given the importance it has for the health of our communities, that we received the donation from INOVEMED in Mozambique.

In Sofala province, APOIAR delivered the pills for the treatment of Malaria to the Director of the Municipal Hospital of Dondo, Dr. Lopes, and followed their distribution in the Health Units of the most vulnerable communities in the province.

APOIAR (SUPPORT) CHAMPIONS IN VILA DO DONDO, SOFALA

The APOIAR Champions project, selected by the Co-financing Line for Development Cooperation Projects, had its official opening this week in Dondo, Sofala.

--

The project's start-up field work has been carried out over the last few months.

This February, after selecting the schools and consolidating the team, we presented the project to the university. We have 40 mentors working with us to SUPPORT Champions and we've already made the official introduction to the community.

This project works on talent development for vulnerable young people through sport, school support and emotional literacy.

We recognize in sport an approach to achieving quality education!

KUKULA kitchens arrive in Tete!

KUKULA kitchens now open in a new province: Tete.

Today, in the community of Nkhame, the first meals were distributed to school children, which, we believe, will contribute to breaking the cycle of absolute poverty in Mozambique.

--

The KUKULA - school kitchens to nurture, grow and learn are part of a very dear project by Apoiar.

In this school feeding program, two meals a day are distributed to assiduous students. We know that nourished children will have better health, greater attendance and school performance.

We believe that this is a fundamental way to fight the cycle of absolute poverty in Mozambique.

Today we opened the first Kukula kitchen in Tete, the first of a set of kitchens that we expect to replicate soon, with our partners, in this same province.

AFRICAN BOX, CHRISTMAS 2021!

The new edition of AFRICAN BOX brings together Mozambican and Portuguese flavors in a box!

The Piri-piri SAKANA box is our proposal for your Christmas gifts this year: solidary gifts, with meaning, that celebrate moments of sharing in Portugal and the lives of thousands of children accompanied by APOIAR, in Mozambique.

--

Christmas is approaching, the time of year when we all take a break from the hustle of everyday life to celebrate Life, Family and Friends. This is, par excellence, the celebration of sharing, of thinking about the other and offering.

To this annual experience we can add an even greater meaning if we think of the other person we know, who is close to us, but also the one who is far away, who lacks the comfort of a meal. By offering APOIAR's AFRICAN BOX, it allows your family sharing time to also be a moment of joy for thousands of children in Mozambique.

Join this cause and be part of the "Mozambican happiness"!

GIVING TUESDAY: YOU & ME AGAINST HUNGER.

"Intentionally commemorated on the first Tuesday after BlackFriday (...) GivingTuesday inspires millions of people around the world to show up and give back to causes that matter to them.

The aim is to create a massive wave of generosity that will last beyond GivingTuesday and that will reach everyone on the planet under the motto “I can change”.

APOIAR is one of the Organizations present at GivingTuesday Portugal, on the 30th of November.

--

In Mozambique:

» School feeding is one of the most powerful ways to fight malnutrition;

» Malnutrition is associated with school failure;

» A school meal is a strong incentive to fight child labor;

» Coverage of school feeding programs is only 3%;

APOIAR implemented, in 8 schools in rural communities, the KUKULA project - Mozambican school kitchens to nourish, grow and learn!

In this GIVING TUESDAY the appeal is that YOU&EU are united in the distribution of meals to children from the most vulnerable communities in Mozambique.

We are counting on you, on this day, to reinforce the importance of food in education and in the future.

The first baby at our Clínica Esperança!

"this is the first baby born at the health center in nhampuepwa, male, the child was born at 21:47 minutes, weighing 2,200 kg, baby and mother are fine" » a message we received from the APOIAR team in Mozambique, and that filled us with joy.

--

Clinica Esperança was a project that started with the strength and courage of a volunteer, with crowdfunding!

This volunteer was joined by donors and the Esperança clinic, from APOIAR, was handed over at the end of July to the State. In Nhampuepua there is now a Health Center, with maternity, to provide assistance to the closest communities.

On August 27th the news could not have been better.

The first baby was born at Clínica Esperança!!! We accompany mum on our MAYI project and give her a Babybox with the first essential products for the baby's first months of life!

Start of the Santolic project!

We ended the month of June with the start of the Santolic project. Santolic is integrated within the UNGUMI project and aims, through various activities, to educate and contribute to improved sanitation.

It is in Sofala that the project "Ungumi – Promote and build

a healthy post-idai space in rural communities along the Dondo Savane corridor".

More than a year after the beginning of the project, we have now moved on to the initiation phase of the Santolic activity. The objective of this activity is to develop the protection of public health by increasing the coverage of hygiene and sanitation conditions by the inhabitants of rural communities in the Dondo-Savane corridor.

We met with the community and now we are going to train for the construction of latrines, according to Santolic.

In the image on the right, the latrine covers are being distributed to the beneficiaries' homes.

VIDA ONLINE - Computer School!

The ideal facilities have been found for the new computer center, which results from the partnership between APOIAR and FUNDAÇÃO LVIDA, with the financing of the "Vinci Program for Citizenship".

It is with great joy that we announce another partnership for the new computer science school: VIDA ONLINE, the Municipality of Dondo. This is an acknowledgment of those who already know APOIAR's work. The Municipality of Dondo thus joins a project whose focus is to facilitate access to employment, through the training of young people in the subject of information technology.

In the image on the right, the Mayor of Dondo, Manuel Virade Chaparica, the President of APOIAR, Helena Ribeiro Telles, and the Coordinator of APOIAR in Mozambique, Mércia Chande, formalize the signing of the agreement, with the transfer of facilities (2 rooms) to carry out the formations.ta tab and include information of interest to site visitors. For example, if you are using tabs to show different services, please describe why this service is different. If you're using tabs to display restaurant items, describe why a particular dish is so special or delicious.

The new roof of the school of MUITA!

In Niassa, the KUKULA school feeding project takes place in 5 kitchens, built in 5 school communities.

In the MUITA community, the roofs of the classrooms started to deteriorate and we even found rooms without a roof.

The KUKULA school feeding project runs through the funcuination of 5 kitchens in 5 school communities in the district of Mamdimba. APOIAR's intervention in this project is developed at the level of food, as an incentive to increase school attendance, in the fight against child labour.

In the MUITA community, the roofs of the classrooms began to deteriorate and there were already rooms without a roof, which made it impossible for children to rehash classes on rainy days.

In partnership with Educação, APOIAR put "hands on" to recover the roof of the classrooms!

It is with joy that we announce today that the classrooms have new roofs, and that children can go to classes... come rain or shine!

Inspirational backpacks and cloths, from Portugal to Mozambique!

Two weeks of delivery of in-kind donations in a campaign carried out in Portugal, aimed at the most vulnerable children in the communities of Sofala - Mozambique.

It is in Sofala that we have resumed, in these last two weeks, the distribution of future backpacks to the most vulnerable children in the communities.

The future backpacks campaign had the collaboration of Águas de Portugal, EDP and Lusíadas Saúde, and we are distributing the 4,920 backpacks raised in Portugal.

At the same time, we deliver to each school a cloth with inspiring messages painted by children in Portuguese schools, with the aim of motivating Mozambican children as well.

We arrived at schools where there are still no classrooms. It is the shade of the trees that gives shelter to children who have classes in the street... and their legs serve as a writing table.

Mércia, Project Manager at APOIAR in Mozambique, tells us: "The certainty now is that the notebooks and books - which they already had - have won a

safe space...the future backpack."

The Father in Mayi!

On the 19th of March we celebrate Father's Day, on this important day we want to make a special reference to the participation of parents in Mozambique, who have gradually joined the mothers, and

to APOIAR, at MAYI - Training Academy in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition.

The MAYI project, by APOIAR, is a project aimed at pregnant women and mothers of babies up to 2 years old. Here we train participants in the major areas of maternal and child health and nutrition. Along this path, and as new replicas of the MAYI project are created, we have been introducing, more and more, the presence of the Father. This is a great achievement, we managed to arouse the curiosity of the Parents and now we have a training module entered into the program for men/parents only.

Today, the 19th of March, we celebrate Father's Day in Portugal and we want to make reference to this great achievement of recent months. It is really important to introduce the father in the family and his interest in, and participation in, topics that are easily associated exclusively with women is a big step - even for female empowerment. Today in Sofala, Mozambique, we already have several parents who attend modules of the Training Academy in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition, we are moving towards a more present fatherhood, in monitoring pregnancy, childbirth and the baby's development!
