AFTER THE IDAI CYCLONE

In response to the tragic consequences of the passage of Cyclone IDAI by Sofala, we join immediate efforts to respond to the emergency and continue to work on Reconstruction.
We support the most vulnerable families.

APOIAR  and the calamity in Sofala

Terrifying images and videos of Mozambique, of the destruction of the cyclone Idai, were multiplied around the world. The municipality of Dondo, which is 34km from the city of Beira, was one of the most affected areas. We have been to Dondo for over 10 years. It is there that we receive 200 pregnant women, mothers and their babies every day in the MAYI project; in the same facilities children up to the age of 10 attend the nursery and the open door of the LVida Foundation. As a Portuguese NGDO we promote nutrition, health and education, we are part of the community, we know faces, streets, names.

In the midst of the anguish and anxiety over the scale of the catastrophe we were embraced by an incredible wave of solidarity that moved us and allowed us to do, and there is so much to do! We have mobilized efforts for action, we have supported in the emergency, we are structuring a reconstruction plan... that has already begun! There are schools being rehabilitated and a neighborhood to (re) build!

With fundamental partnerships we are rebuilding hearts, lives, schools and homes. Follow this project!
After ensuring the survival and safety of the populations, our action focused on rehabilitation as a means of helping Dondo communities - most affected by cyclone idai - to recover.
>> We build safer and more resistant homes in the Nhampwepwe neighborhood with the community.
>> We help families to recover their livelihood.
>> We have re-qualified the coverage of 3 schools: EPC Tundane, EPC Marcação and EPC Milha 8, in Dondo.
>> We rebuilt the coverage of the attached room at the Lusalite Health Center.
>> We rebuilt 16 APOIAR employees' homes.
FINANCIAL DONATIONS

March 22 was an important day. It was the day we entered the home of all Portuguese through SIC / SIC Esperança with the launch of the fundraising campaign APOIAR Mozambique (video HERE).
Thanks to the contribution of thousands of Portuguese through a solidarity line and bank transfers, this campaign resulted in € 239,772.94.

For each Compal da Terra nectar package sold Compal reimburses €1, the entire sale price of the product, to support the project to rebuild 2 schools in Sofala Province.
This initiative, which will support more than 1,500 children, continues with the distribution (for one year) of daily school meals and school supplies to the elementary school students of the Marcação and Nhampwepwe schools.
COMPAL expects to raise € 120.000 with the sale of COMPAL da Terra, with the campaign "Help Us Help Mozambique" (video HERE).

Focusing on the reconstruction of the life of these communities and focusing on the future, on agricultural development and on the recovery of machambas, as a means of subsistence, 11 municipalities of the Lezíria do Tejo Intermunicipal Community joined this cause.
These donations result in a total of € 22,374.76 which reverts to the purchase of various agricultural materials (watering can, hoses, catanas, hoes, buckets, ...) and will be distributed to 600 families.
Our thanks to the Chambers of the Municipalities of Azambuja, Almeirim, Alpiarça, Benavente, Chamusca, Coruche, Golegã, Rio Maior, Salvaterra de Magos and Santarém.

In response to our call following this catastrophe, Friends of APOIAR (individual donations) and companies - other partners (meet them HERE) joined in the campaign.
APOIAR in Reconstruction.
The result was a raise of €172.151,97 (between 18 March 2019 and 28 May 2019).
