Academic Year 2023-2024
The Digital Exchange Project “North-South Dialogue”, promoted by APOIAR, aims to strengthen Development Education by fostering critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and the practice of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This initiative connects young people from five schools in the Ribatejo region of Portugal – Marquesa da Alorna Secondary School (Almeirim), Benavente Secondary School, Vale de Aveiras School Group, Salvaterra de Magos School Group, and Alexandre Herculano School Group (Santarém) – with students from Dondo Secondary School in Beira, Mozambique. Using a participatory and collaborative methodology, the project promotes active citizenship and social transformation.
The project focuses on bridging schools and communities, encouraging critical reflection on global challenges such as poverty, gender inequality, and access to essential resources, while integrating the SDGs into practical activities. The methodology empowers young people as agents of change and fosters intercultural understanding.
In the second edition of this Exchange Project, the interaction among young participants once again proved to be a source of transformation and change, strengthening the sense of global citizenship and community engagement. Both teachers and students highlighted the benefits of this experience, describing it as profoundly enriching.
Academic Year 2022-2023
This was the school year in which the Digital Exchange Project began, funded by Camões, I.P, implemented by APOIAR and in partnership with the Castêlo da Maia School Group.
We are now programming replicas of this project, for the next school year and with new partners, with the aim of reinforcing critical thinking for intercultural understanding and for the practice of the Sustainable Development Goals in Portuguese and Mozambican schools.
Below we share the learning path, from year 1 (pilot project), through the following documents:
Project Manuals:
After the five exchange sessions, students from both countries decided which activities they were going to develop to respond to specific problems in their community, based on the selection of one of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Below we share images of the activities carried out by each group of students, in their contribution to the selected SDG.
