6th of June. Day marked by the ceremony of the first stone in the Nhampuepue district. This reconstruction project, with the partnership of SIC Esperança, had its first major landmark (stone) on the ground today! Thank you to everyone who participated in this campaign that allows us to start building homes with the community.
26.05.2019
Today the day was marked with the launch of the first stone of Clinica Esperança.
The community has joined us to celebrate the event and to fulfill the cultural rituals that "will bring to this place only the good energies".
20.05.2019
We continued to conduct surveys to identify vulnerable families, who need more urgent support in the reconstruction (1,026 surveys have been carried out so far).
17.05.2019
Today, in the neighborhood of Asvismo, in Dondo, the distribution was directed to the elderly and widows. Our team in Mozambique distributed 90 kits (they contained 1 bag of 25kg of rice, 1kg of salt and 1kg of sugar).
15.05.2019
We continue with distributions, this time, in new communities of the province of Sofala! We came to Nhamachartera and Nhauchembe and delivered 123 food and soap kits.
14.05.2019
The destination this time was Nhampuepue. Here we delivered food and other goods, organized into 370 kits for the most vulnerable families.
Inside the kits were: 2kg of salt, 2 boxes of matches, 6kg of rice and 1kg of cornmeal.
10.05.2019
We went at Milha8 school to deliver kits to the most vulnerable families. Children, moms and the elderly have gathered to receive this help from APOIAR.
The kits included 3kg of rice, 1kg of salt, 1kg of flour and 1 can of beans.
30.04.2019
We left, in a school in a rural community, 10 sacks of 25 kg of flour and sugar. The next day we went back to school and what we found was very good ...!
A pot on the fire, children in queues and meals for all!

In recent days we have confirmed the expression most used by Mozambicans: "Eish how the cyclone affected!"
We see humanitarian aid coming from many countries. We see teams of different nationalities working together for this very urgent cause.
The children, who walk barefoot through accommodation centers, play with land and with plastics ... Mozambican adolescents are distracted by music and games in community. The truth is that, even with the uncertainty of the future that awaits them, all of them wait and they feel more secure in the company of these various countries of the world here - in Mozambique. Testimony Teresa C. (APOIAR team)
23.04.2019
Under this African heat the real stories are the ones that mark us.
"Júlia José, a 20-year-old girl, lives with 6 minors in a precariously built house. Her parents died and Julia stayed with her younger sisters and her 3 children.
On the day we visited her, her 3-year-old son died of malaria ... At such an overwhelming moment no words were exchanged. In silence we share only pain. "Testimony Teresa C. (APOIAR team)
21.04.2019
We walk and talk to the families of the Mafarinha neighborhood.
In the midst of such tragedy, we see what's the good thing, and that helps each one to survive, the neighbors. That even without having anything, they do everything to help others.
- "Come ask my friend a question, which is very bad" - said D. Isabel, pulling her weary arms from the volunteer, of so many miles, and who does not resist this appeal.
Testimony Teresa C. (APOIAR team)
17.04.2019
In Sofala, Mozambique, we are talking to families and identifying the most vulnerable cases that need more urgent support in reconstruction. And the needs are so many. The testimony of Teresa who joined the team APOIAR this week in Dondo: "It was with the surveys the moms and the visits of the neighborhood of Mafarinha that the reality touched us and pierced the heart. From "I have nothing", to the fear that they felt on the night of the cyclone when they "fled through a hole in the wall of the house", seconds before it fell, to the devastation they suffered when "the house I built for a long time fell" so "they continue to have that constant joy that never seems to be overturned".
The help that came to APOIAR yesterday in Dondo, coming from the Portuguese Cooperation in partnership with MEGA was very important! We have brought from Maputo 34,000 kg of food that will be distributed this week by the most vulnerable people and families.
In the transportation of this container, in charge of APOIAR, we also brought 10,000 kg of food - also donated by the Portuguese Cooperation - to the Beira Association of Invisuais.
15.04.2019
On Saturday, we continued to distribute the 100 Kits (donated by the C4 group) which included construction materials and food. Most of the delivery was made to older people in the Dondo community.
12.04.2019
Today, at the facilities of the L Life Foundation, 100 Kits of help are being distributed to the families of the community.
100 kits including home building materials and food items, which will be delivered to 100 vulnerable families previously flagged by Dondo social services.
The gratefulness of these donations is to the donor group of Maputo - C4!
05.04.2019
We are at a time when the concern is to support (APOIAR) the emergency.
Together with the Dondo hospital some organizations are under surveillance, control and vaccination, one of the major concerns at the moment is cholera. They also distribute mosquito nets to the population.
Today, at Fundação L Vida, APOIAR distributed vegetable soup mostly to mothers and children. As many of these mothers got together in our big room, it was like a restart of MAYI project trainings. Part of returning to normal life is also, for these pregnant women and mothers, returning to the MAYI project and returning to APOIAR. It’s good to be able to accommodate them and help them rebuild their lives!
03.04.2019
The day was dedicated to pregnant women, single mothers, widows and babies from the Dondo community, the vast majority of whom are attending or had attended our Maternal Health and Child Nutrition Training Academy before the cyclone! Some bring company, and so new moms are popping up looking for groceries, water, meals.
The children at the LVida Foundation's ATL (open door program of leisure activities) also got together for lunch and for some comfort.
Today all those who were with us - pregnant women, single mothers, widows, babies and children - were served fortified porridge.
02.04.2019
Today the pots went back to the stove! It is with great joy that we announce that APOIAR has served 360 meals (300 mothers and 60 seniors) in the facilities of the LVida Foundation.
We also distributed personalized kits with essential goods to over 400 people: 48 kits in Bairro da Mafarinha, 60 in the Southern District, 175 to the elderly and widows, and 130 to pregnant women and moms of the MAYI project.
We refer again to the precious help of VAMOZ (Mozambique Anonymous Volunteers) in gathering and collecting groceries. The kits include assorted goods such as oil, flour, soap, spaghetti, matches, rice, candles, toothpaste, clothes, crackers, sardine cans, beans, sugar, salt, etc.

Having finished the inventory of all the food items collected - only possible with the support of the VAMOZ Group - Anonymous Volunteers of Mozambique, our team on the ground, coordinated by Madalena Baptista da Silva, co-founder of APOIAR, today prepared baskets to distribute to the families of Dondo. The baskets were made taking into account the needs of each family. Thus, today 58 kits were distributed in the South Quarter of F.LVIDA facilities. They are prepared to distribute 200 more kits for the pregnant women and moms of MAYI, 48 kits for the Mafarinha school (where 48 families are housed) and 30 kits for other families in the Mafarinha neighborhood who have lost everything and are still being identified.
Tomorrow, apart from distributing baskets of groceries to families, it's the day to reopen our kitchen and restart serving meals!
29.03.2019
The APOIAR Team, at the LVida Foundation headquarters, is receiving and making an inventory of all food, clothing and hygiene products to be delivered to the people most affected by Idai cyclone in the Dondo community, together with the INGC (National Calamity Management Institute). Some of these products were the result of fund raising organized by the group "Unidos por
Beira" (Together For Beira”). At this stage, the help of the Anonymous Volunteers of the solidarity boat that came from Maputo is crucial. The inventory allows us to catalog all the products so that the appropriate distribution is organized and products delivered to each family during the coming weeks and months, always keeping in mind the most vulnerable people who need the most urgent help.
27.03.2019
In Maputo, Mercia, the APOIAR Country Manager, is present at the meetings promoted by the Portuguese Cooperation, where daily notes are being taken of what is being done in each province. Efforts are being made to enable all of us to respond efficiently to the most urgent needs of the population. There are updates to tell about what's happening on the ground! The waters are getting lower, communications are being rehabilitated and the reopening of roads has accelerated at the entrance of humanitarian aid. The vast majority of homeless people are sheltered in schools and churches.
The great news of the day is that the APOIAR team, which has already arrived in Beira, is loading and transporting the humanitarian supplies to our facilities in Dondo, where they will start distributing to families.
The next few days will focus on this distribution of essential goods and on the diagnosis of the most urgent priorities for action.
25.03.2019
Good news! Today we found out that our entire team at Dondo is in good health. Work began on cleaning getting everything back in place the facilities of Fundação LVida, partner of APOIAR, with the support of some moms who attend the MAYI project. A lot of water has invaded the facilities and the roof is damaged but we want to re-open doors as soon as possible.
Changes in flights have caused the trip scheduled for yesterday to be postponed. So 4 elements of APOIAR will arrive in Beira, and to Dondo, tomorrow.
We will focus on facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into the communities of Dondo and surveying the most urgent needs to intervene.
22.03.2019
The biggest joy, to be recorded in today's diary, is great news that 4 members of our team at Dondo (of whom we until today had no information) are well!
The first trip to Dondo for an APOIAR member who will join our local team to survey our most pressing needs and embrace "our people." Is scheduled for Sunday.
We are working on procedures with INGC (National Institute of Disaster Management) to integrate the emergency response into Dondo in our community.
We are overwhelmed with the generosity of all those who participate in the fundraising campaign and with the availability of all those who contact us by phone, email and social networks.
We want to make reference to anything extraordinary that happened to us and that we are still assimilating. It is an extraordinary aid that has come to NGO APOIAR, and that will reach the entire community in Dondo, Sofala, where we operate. The partnership with SIC Esperança is more than we could imagine. We are very grateful for the trust of those who are familiarized with our work and are giviving us the means to act. An inexplicable feeling of “the more we are ... the more we look like one!” Together to SUPPORT Mozambique!
20.03.2019
From the headquarters of Almeirim and Maputo, we are following with fear the news in the press. The situation is not likely to improve in the coming days. We are trying to define a path where now we only see chaos. We are preparing the security of the mission team who is anxious to go to the field. We are dealing with all the necessary procedures to integrate the emergency response that is being coordinated by the National Institute of Disaster Management. We have launched a fundraising campaign that we would rather not have done as it would meanthat such a tragedy did not exist. At the same time, we were embraced by an enormous wave of generosity that enlightens our way. We are working on contacts, joining forces with other organizations to give a direct response to this crisis. This crisis will have and impact that will be felt for theyears to come. We wish we did not have to write these lines, but this is our reality today and thereforetoday we do everything we can. The people who are now suffering from this catastrophe are the strength that moves us.
Today the day was marked with the launch of the first stone of Clinica Esperança.
